A bit late for Studio Friday, but I've been watching for a while and finally am jumping in. The theme this week, "something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue." I'm not normally superstitious, but I did have one of each of these on my wedding day. It was fun to re-think the rhyme in my studio.
The old: A watercolor brush that I used in the very first watercolor class I took when I was a kid. It must have been part of a kit that each of us got, because we all had exactly the same. Amazing that I still have it, and that it is in fairly good shape. I haven't used it in a while, but I was excited to find it hiding in the jar with my other watercolor brushes.
The new: New-ish, I guess, or new again. I made a journal out of watercolor paper some time ago for myself, but it didn't come out very well. I'd cut the cover boards slightly too big, and the glue holding the bookblock to the covers didn't hold well, so the covers were loose and flapping. I'd sewn it coptic stitch, and used doubled thread where I should have used single, so the spine is thicker than the pages. Ugh. It has been sitting on the shelf for a while, unused. Today I took it down, tore the covers off, and re-bound it with a piece of rich brown lambskin that I bought last week. It is beautiful. Now I can't wait to use it.
The borrowed: I don't seem to have much borrowed stuff in my studio - I had to think about this one. Then I remembered the calligraphy pens I borrowed from M. last year to try. I should probably give them back. :)
The blue: A representative tube of watercolor paint, my current medium of focus. Grumbacher Prussian Blue, in this case. It is a very nice color, too.
