Well, spring vacation. This is what our kitchen looked like until about a week ago (click for a bigger image if you dare):
Ick. Boring wood cabinets, ancient appliances, ugly brown grout. Get a load of that lace curtain, too. It was grey when compared to the white wall of the dining room, and went directly to the trash can. You can't see it in this photo, but there is also old, floral wallpaper surrounding the window, and also on the walls just to the left and right of this frame.
This was what it looked like by Wednesday last week:
Notice the shiny new fridge and dishwasher. The cabinet doors (and drawers, which are hidden from view) are scattered about the house, in various states of prep and paint. Notice the turquoise wallpaper glue that is all that remains of the wallpaper. And this is now:
Green. We keep calling it "our new green kitchen." It is so lovely and cheerful in there. I had no idea what a difference a coat of paint would make. Eventually I want to install stainless knobs and pulls on the cupboards, and the light fixture and the blue clock have got to go. But the grout doesn't even look so bad now, and we lovelovelove the new fridge and dishwasher. Love them. This was our first home-improvement project, and while we made a few mistakes, we recovered well, learned a lot, and love the results. I'm sure this is just one of many projects we'll be tackling around here.
But today, back to work with me. Vacation was wonderful. Taking time off and staying at home was the best thing I could have done for myself. I haven't felt this calm and centered and rested in months.
